Answering to the past: part5 attacked by the beast

I was growing tired and had found myself blocked… Perhaps the Cardinal would have some information in his journals… I pack up and went to the church. I noticed Green wasn't about, I began going through the later Cardinal Hermann's things. His journals… Missing… in fact all of his stuff… I noticed the fireplace was lit. Strange since it isn't cold enough for a fireplace. Then I noticed that someone had thrown something in the fire. I walked over and poked the ashes, yup… the missing Journals and belongings… I picked up a burnt piece of paper…. It was a report about my brother but no photo, no name, no address… Hell, anyone could be my brother… I folded what was left of the paper…. I may be able to find a lead somewhere later… Then I heard some movement…. I walked toward the door when a creature moving both on 2 and then on four legs came at me… It was smaller than me, red fur… Almost a man but not quite… It had claws on its hands, tusk and fang…. Its breath was bad… In fact when it breathed on me a dark smoke spilled… It was like poison and weakened me as the creature attacked and threw me from the office into the Temple hall and into the pews… I spat up blood as it jumped and landed feet first into my back… Like a gorilla it beat on my back with great strength…. I reached for the scabbard… On the open end is a gold band if I twist it the bottom end opens and lifts half way exposing the blade of my sword. Pushing the hilt to the floor as the creature leapt in the air he came down hard on my blade and pulled away howling in pain… I stumbled up but by the time I turned around he was gone… I went to the nearest Library… Doing research I found a reference ' Nain Rouge'. It is French…. A red fury dwarf with bad teeth that brings bad luck to Detroit. 1701, 1763, 1805, 1812. 1884, 1964. 1967, 1976 and 1996, A lot of sightings, apparent attacks. No proof,. Not even a drawing of the thing… Just a vague description… I would have to visit the Dragon Library… Perhaps they would have something more solid… I stopped into a store… "I need to send a fax."
